Biography
Ariana Horner Sutherland is a lyric soprano originally from Nome, Alaska. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Alaska, a Master’s in Vocal Performance from Sam Houston State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
In recent years, Ariana made her operatic debut as Pamina in the 2022 chamber adaptation of The Magic Flute, a collaboration between UCSB and the New York City Opera. In the spring of 2023, she earned second place in the Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation competition. Her notable roles include Clara in Opera Santa Barbara’s 2022–23 production of The Light in the Piazza by Adam Guettel, as a Chrisman Studio Artist. Most recently, she covered the role of Micaëla in Opera Santa Barbara’s 2023 production of Carmen.
Ariana is a dedicated advocate for music education and American music, blending her passion for teaching with a vibrant performance career. She maintains a private studio while actively performing. As a recitalist, she has traveled the globe, with performances spanning from South Africa to the remote corners of Alaska.
Through both her performances and teaching, Ariana continues to inspire, whether on stage or in the classroom, sharing her love for music and empowering the next generation of musicians.
